Wastewater Treatment Plant – Advancing Eco-Friendly Campus Initiatives
At HECS, we are committed to promoting environmental sustainability through community-driven initiatives. In the financial year 2024–2025, our CSR efforts focused on integrating sustainable water management systems in educational institutions. One such significant initiative was the installation of a wastewater treatment plant at Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School, Chennai.
With a CSR investment, this project was designed to address the growing concern of water wastage and pollution in urban campuses. The school, known for its heritage and academic excellence, required an efficient system to manage its daily wastewater discharge without harming the environment. The solution: a compact, eco-friendly, and durable wastewater treatment system.
The newly installed plant is engineered to treat the school’s greywater and sewage using biological processes, enabling safe reuse for gardening and non-potable purposes. This initiative not only promotes water conservation but also instils environmental responsibility among students and staff.
The project aligns with HECS's broader vision of integrating green technologies in public spaces. By equipping the school with a fully functional treatment plant, we’ve empowered the institution to reduce its ecological footprint while also complying with environmental safety standards.
This CSR project is a long-term investment toward creating sustainable campuses. It offers practical exposure to students on how wastewater can be treated and reused, serving as a real-time learning model within the school premises. The initiative has received appreciation from the school management, faculty, and local education authorities, recognising HECS’s effort in making schools more sustainable.
With this, HECS continues to drive meaningful environmental change through strategic CSR contributions that blend infrastructure, awareness, and ecological responsibility.
We believe every drop counts, and every project like this brings us one step closer to a cleaner and more responsible future.
