| Workplace and physical | Work environment, noise, illumination, LDAR, clean room testing, industrial hygiene |
Air and Emission Testing
Ambient air quality testing measures outdoor pollutants against the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), 2009; our laboratory has upgraded its capability to assess NAAQS 2009 parameters. Stack emission testing covers pollutants released through chimneys and vents, while fugitive emission, VOC, hydrocarbon, acid mist and PAH analysis covers other releases. Meteorological data supports interpretation of ambient results.
Water and Wastewater Testing
We test water, sewage and industrial effluent, including treated effluent from ETPs and STPs. Analysis covers trace and heavy metals, pesticides and microbiological parameters. For drinking water and groundwater, see our dedicated water testing services.
Soil, Sediment and Sludge Testing
Soil and sediment testing supports environmental baseline studies, contamination assessment at industrial sites and site evaluation for construction projects. Sludge testing characterises treatment-plant sludge to guide handling, disposal or reuse under sludge management programmes.
Workplace and Industrial Hygiene Testing
Work-environment monitoring helps EHS teams assess noise and illumination levels employees are exposed to. Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) surveys locate fugitive leaks from valves, flanges and pumps so they can be fixed.
BS-2 Microbiology Laboratory
Our BS-2 (Biosafety Level 2) Microbiology Laboratory specialises in clean room testing and industrial hygiene, helping organisations verify the safety of controlled and working environments. It also conducts toxicity studies and bioassays on treated effluent and sewage water, showing a discharge's biological impact beyond its chemical results.
Environmental Testing for Regulatory and Compliance Requirements
In India, monitoring requirements come from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC), the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and State Pollution Control Boards (SPCBs), such as the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board. Consent to Establish, Consent to Operate and environmental clearance conditions commonly specify periodic monitoring.
Testing can support environmental monitoring, regulatory reporting and compliance-related requirements. Results must be assessed against the standards that apply to each facility, see our environmental regulations overview.

Environmental testing services - FAQ
Environmental testing is the laboratory analysis and monitoring of water, wastewater, air, soil, industrial emissions, and noise to determine whether environmental parameters comply with applicable regulatory standards and consent conditions. It provides documented analytical evidence that industries can use for environmental compliance, audits, inspections, reporting, and pollution-control decisions.
The main types of environmental testing include water testing, wastewater and effluent testing, ambient air quality monitoring, stack emission testing, soil testing, and noise monitoring. The tests required by an industry depend on its activities, pollution category, consent conditions, Environmental Clearance requirements, and applicable environmental regulations.
Environmental testing is mandatory when it is required under an industry's Consent to Establish (CTE), Consent to Operate (CTO), Environmental Clearance, or other applicable regulatory requirements. Industries may need to periodically monitor parameters such as treated effluent quality, ambient air quality, stack emissions, groundwater, soil, and noise and submit the required reports to the relevant authorities.
NABL accreditation demonstrates that a laboratory has been assessed against applicable requirements for laboratory competence, including ISO/IEC 17025. For regulatory and compliance testing, using a laboratory with the appropriate NABL-accredited scope provides greater confidence that the sampling, testing methods, equipment, calibration, analysts, and reporting processes meet recognized competency requirements.
The required frequency of environmental testing depends on the industry's consent conditions, applicable regulations, pollution category, environmental clearance requirements, and the parameters being monitored. Depending on the requirement, industries may conduct water and effluent testing monthly, ambient air monitoring periodically, stack emission monitoring at specified intervals, and noise or soil testing according to their applicable compliance schedule.
The cost of environmental testing in India depends on the sample type, number of parameters, sampling locations, testing methodology, field monitoring requirements, and turnaround time. Water and effluent testing may involve a defined set of laboratory parameters, while stack emission surveys, ambient air monitoring, soil analysis, and comprehensive environmental monitoring programs can require additional field sampling and instrumentation. A laboratory normally provides a quotation based on the required testing scope.
Yes, a laboratory with the appropriate NABL-accredited scope can provide multiple environmental testing services, including water, wastewater, air, soil, stack emission, and noise testing. Using one qualified laboratory can simplify sampling schedules, documentation, reporting, and compliance management, provided the laboratory's accredited scope covers the specific parameters and methods required.
Common environmental testing parameters include pH, BOD, COD, TSS, TDS, oil and grease, heavy metals, microbiological parameters, ambient air pollutants, stack emissions, soil characteristics, and noise levels. The exact parameters depend on the industry's process, wastewater or emission characteristics, consent conditions, and applicable regulatory standards.
If an environmental test result exceeds an applicable limit, the industry should investigate the cause, verify the sampling and analytical results, identify the source of the exceedance, implement corrective action, and conduct appropriate follow-up testing. Depending on the situation and regulatory requirements, the industry may also need to document the incident, review its treatment or pollution-control systems, and take corrective measures to prevent recurrence.
Industries should choose an environmental testing laboratory based on NABL accreditation, accredited scope, testing methods, technical expertise, sampling capabilities, reporting quality, turnaround time, and experience with environmental compliance requirements. Before selecting a laboratory, verify that its accredited scope covers the specific parameters and environmental matrices required, including water, wastewater, ambient air, stack emissions, soil, and noise.

Ambient air quality testing measures pollutant concentrations in outdoor air at a site or around a facility. In India, results are compared with the National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), 2009, notified by CPCB. It is commonly required under consent conditions, environmental clearance and baseline studies.
Stack emission testing measures pollutants released through a chimney from sources such as boilers, furnaces and generator sets. Results are compared with limits set by CPCB or the relevant State Pollution Control Board and help facilities check how well their air pollution control systems perform.
Yes. An environmental laboratory can analyse water, sewage, industrial effluent and treated effluent for chemical, heavy metal, pesticide and microbiological parameters. Hubert Enviro Care Systems also conducts toxicity studies and bioassays on treated effluent and sewage water.
Environmental soil testing establishes baseline site conditions and detects contamination such as heavy metals. On construction and infrastructure projects, it helps developers understand the site before work begins and supports environmental assessments needed for approvals.
Share the sample type, site location, parameters or applicable standard, number of samples or monitoring points, and frequency. If you are unsure which parameters apply, our team can review your consent conditions or project requirement and recommend a testing scope.
