Chennai, 2025 – The construction and real estate industry received crucial guidance on navigating complex environmental regulations during a comprehensive seminar organised by Hubert Enviro Care Systems (HECS) and CREDAI Chennai at The Raintree Hotel.

The event, titled "Environmental Clearance Requirements and Compliance," brought together a distinguished panel of environmental experts, legal professionals, and industry leaders to address pressing concerns facing the construction sector in the wake of recent regulatory developments.

Addressing Industry Bottlenecks

Mr. Mohammed Ali, Managing Director of South India Shelters and President of CREDAI Chennai, opened the seminar by highlighting the significant challenges developers face in securing Environmental Clearances (ECs). "The recent Supreme Court judgment has created new complexities that require immediate attention and strategic adaptation," Ali emphasised, calling for streamlined procedures and enhanced stakeholder engagement.

Dr. J.R. Moses, CEO of HECS, reinforced the urgency of understanding the evolving legal landscape, stating that proactive compliance is essential for the industry's sustainable growth.

Expert Insights on Legal Framework

The seminar featured comprehensive presentations on India's environmental regulatory framework. Dr. Dwaraka Nath, Chairman of SEIAA-Pondicherry, provided insights into Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and India's commitment to meeting environmental targets within defined timelines.

Dr. C.T. Puttaswamy from BMS College of Engineering, Mysore, and a Member of SEAC Karnataka, elaborated on Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) studies as strategic decision-making tools, incorporating SWOT analysis methodologies to enhance practical relevance in project planning.

Waste Management and Sustainability Focus

Dr. Balasubramaniam, Professor of Chemical Engineering at Anna University and Member of the State Disaster Management Committee, delivered a compelling session on waste management, emphasising the critical intersection of scientific principles and policy implementation. His presentation advocated for integrated approaches that transform environmental challenges into sustainable development opportunities.

Global Initiatives and Legal Compliance

The seminar also highlighted Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), India's global initiative for sustainable living, presented by Dr. Murali Krishna Chimata, Additional Director at MoEF&CC, Sub-Regional Office, Vijayawada. This session encouraged attendees to adopt environmentally conscious practices across professional and personal domains.

Advocate Siddhant Kohli, Supreme Court Counsel, provided critical insights into legal consequences and remedies for compliance failures. His presentation, featuring relevant case studies and proactive compliance frameworks, was particularly appreciated for its practical legal guidance and clarity on avoiding non-compliance issues.
